Dear Supporter,

On behalf of the volunteers and staff at the Canadian Cancer Society, please accept my sincere thanks
for renewing your support in 2010 with your generous gift.

With loyal friends like you by our side, we look forward to another year of groundbreaking cancer
research that will help save lives. Even as I write this letter, Society-funded researchers across the
province are working toward new strategies for prevention, more effective screening methods and better
cancer therapies.

For example, a clinical trial led by Dr. Derek Jonker in Ottawa pinpointed the specific group of patients
with advanced colorectal cancer who are most likely to benefit from a new cancer drug – cetuximab. The
findings mean that in the future these patients, who will benefit most because they carry a certain gene,
can be targeted for treatment, sparing those who will not benefit.

Your most recent donation will also help the Society reach out to friends, family and loved ones who have
been touched by the disease. Thanks to you, we can provide the credible information, peer support and
services they so urgently need.

Thank you again for your renewed support. Your ongoing commitment will help bring us closer to a world
where no Canadian fears cancer.

Gratefully yours,

Rick Perciante
Acting Chief Executive Officer
Canadian Cancer Society, Ontario Division

P.S. Should you have any questions about your recent gift please don’t hesitate to call us toll-free at 1

Dear Friend,

I know you are someone who believes in prayer. That knowledge gives me great hope and comfort today as I am certain you are praying for Israel and the Jewish people, as well as for me
and the work of The Fellowship.

Praying for one another is one of the greatest privileges we have. This is why I look forward to receiving your requests that you want The Fellowship to pray for at the Kotel, the Western Wall in Jerusalem-the only remaining portion of the Second Temple in existence today, and the holiest site in the world.

Our prayer time for you is one of The Fellowship’s most sacred commitments. Therefore, I trust you will fill out and return the enclosed prayer request form before April 30 so your requests can be taken to Jerusalem.

There is a deep sense of God’s holy presence at the Western Wall, which makes praying there such a moving experience.

As I and our staff pray for the requests of friends like you, we often weep to think of the sacrifices our dedicated Fellowship partners make to support Israel and those in need despite illness, the loss of loved ones, financial hardships, or other serious circumstances.

The reality of these needs makes your deep love for Israel and the Jewish people shine even more brightly. I believe this year’s prayer season is especially timely-given continued global economic issues and the dire needs being felt by Jews in many troubled lands of distress.

Please know my prayer time at the Western Wall also includes needy people in the Holy Land and those suffering worldwide. Their plight is a daily, heavy burden on my heart.

I urge you to join me in prayer and support for these children of Abraham who have been entrusted to our care, many of whom are at a point of extreme desperation. They include:

  • Jews who face anti-Semitic violence in the former Soviet Union, Europe and Arab lands or disease and poverty in Ethipoia. These immigrants need a friend like you to help sponsor their Freedom Flight to Israel On Wings of Eagles.
  • Impoverished elderly Russian Jews who are often eating spoiled food to survive, and Jewish children who may be on the streets as other sources of their care have been cut. These neediest of Israel’s remnant are in great need of your care through Isaiah 58.
  • The poorest families and individuals in Israel-hundreds of thousands of them-who have fallen in deep poverty and are barely hanging on. The best hope for these destitute people is the assistance that comes from our steadfast Guardians of Israel.

These challenges would be impossible to meet without the prayers and generosity of friends like you. That is why I am grateful that through our Fellowship programs of rescue and care, God has given us the means to act on the concerns which are so close to His own heart.

God’s compassion for Israel is clear in the prophet’s word: “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives” (Isaiah 61: 1). In order to be God’s instrument in this work of mercy, The Fellowship has many enormous challenges to face.

These include our Wings ofEagles outreach that is bringing Jewish immigrants home to Israel from lands of distress in fulfillment of biblical prophecy. We must continue the pace of this urgent effort as Jews in the former Soviet Union, Ethiopia, India, Arab lands, and other countries suffer the hot flames of anti-Jewish hatred and economic desperation.

The sufferings of the elderly and orphans in the former Soviet Union are also on my heart. The necessity of our support for them is driven home each time I reflect on the fact that their lives often depend on the basic needs we provide through the ministry of Isaiah 58.

The same is true for the poverty-stricken in Israel who are struggling to feed their children and meet their families’ needs, and need a helping hand from our steadfast Guardian of Israel.

You can do so much to bless Israel and the Jewish people with your prayers and your gifts to help The Fellowship continue our ministry to destitute Jews and immigrants coming home as part of Israel’s prophetic ingathering.

I trust you will be generous in your response, and be inspired by this biblical promise, spoken by God Himself: “Call to me and I will answer you and show you great and unsearchable things you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3).

Please remember to send me your personal prayer requests before April 30, and as the Lord provides, please enclose also your gift of compassionate care and rescue to The Fellowship’s ministry outreach.

Thank you, dear friend and prayer partner.

With prayers for shalom, peace,

Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein
Chairman

P.S. Enclosed is a prayer promise card for you to keep, and a prayer request form which I hope you will fill out and return to me. We will notify you after your needs are prayed for at the
Western Wall. Thank you for giving us the privilege of praying for you-and for helping minister to those in need in every part of the world.

Moishe Alexander applauds the Government of Canada’s announcement today that the Town of Rimbey has been approved for an infrastructure loan as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

The announcement was made by Blaine Calkins, Member of Parliament for Wetaskiwin, on behalf the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

“Our Government understands the importance of infrastructure in maintaining strong and prosperous communities,” said MP Calkins. “This program is opening the door for municipalities to meet their housing-related infrastructure needs. Canada’s Economic Action Plan will continue to create jobs and stimulate the local economy here in Rimbey, and in all corners of the country.”

Rimbey has been approved for a low-cost loan of more than $1.5 million from CMHC’s Municipal Infrastructure Lending Program (MILP), to upgrade its water distribution system. These upgrades will improve the water pressure for residents of Rimbey as well as increase the town’s water storage capacity for fire protection.

Canada’s Economic Action Plan provides up to $2 billion in direct low-cost loans to municipalities, over two years, for housing-related infrastructure projects through the MILP. Municipal infrastructure loans are available to any municipality in Canada and provide a new source of funds for municipalities to invest in housing-related infrastructure projects. These low cost loans can also be used by municipalities to fund their contribution for cost-shared federal infrastructure programming.

“The Municipal Infrastructure Lending Program is great for smaller communities with limited borrowing capacity” said Tony Goode, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Rimbey. “Thanks to the CMHC loan, the Town of Rimbey is able to undertake water storage and distribution improvements that will enhance the Town’s ability to provide sustainable residential, commercial, and industrial growth in the area.”

Eligible projects include infrastructure related to housing services such as water, power generation and waste services, as well as local transportation infrastructure within and into residential areas, such as roads, sidewalks, lighting and green space.

As Canada’s national housing agency, CMHC draws on more than 60 years of experience to help Canadians access a variety of quality, environmentally sustainable, and affordable homes — homes that will continue to create vibrant and healthy communities and cities across the country.
